THE HERALD
Freedom Plains Presbyterian Church
Founded 1827 Summer,
2006

“You
may plant your land for six years and gather its crops. But during the seventh
year, you must leave it alone and withdraw from it.”
(Exodus 23:10)
Dear Friends,
The Bible structures time in increments of work and rest.
This is also true for individuals, and even for the land itself. The Bible
can, if we let it, remind us of something we too often forget these days, rest
and pulling back from the frantic pace of modern life, which is good from time
to time.
We are discovering this at Freedom Plains during the summer
months. During the school year we are so busy; two services, all kinds of
programs and activities, run, run, run! Summer really is a slower time.
Sunday mornings we cut back to one service at 10:00 AM and in the comfort of
air-conditioning, we worship God as a church family.
It is nice to slow down and be together. Many people say
that they miss seeing some people because they attend the 9:00 am service and
so and so attends the 11:00 AM service. During the summer, we are together and
it is really something to enjoy and even celebrate.
So, this summer, I invite you to come attend church if you
are in town, for it is good to remember that sometimes it is important to slow
down and be together. It is also important at our church, in our lives and in
our relationships, including our relationship with God.
Have a wonderful summer!
Peace,

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL! - Thanks
to all the people who worked on making this year’s Vacation Bible School such a
success. We had a total of 55 children this year and everyone enjoyed the week
as we visited Alaska, California, Kentucky, Florida and Illinois!
The theme for the week
centered around becoming a Mission
Minded Person which requires Prayer, Hospitality, Evangelism, Generosity, and
Action.
There were many people involved
with this year’s event. A lot of time and dedication went into all the many
phases, including preparation for the week, the design and construction of our
boat, registration, setting up the dock activities, teaching in all of the four
stations, child care, group leaders and assistants, church staff support,
administrative tasks, photography, special presentations, caring hands that
prepared snacks and kept us all from starving, and all those who cheered us on
when we needed it.
Over 50 volunteers were
involved with this year’s Vacation Bible School and “Kept Our Ship Afloat!”
Thank you to
all!
